Microsoft Users with two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled will no longer be asked to enter their password. Instead, they will be directly asked to enter the 2FA code sent as an SMS or email.

If you are being asked to enter a password multiple times for your Microsoft account, Credentials, Browser Cookies, Sync issues, 2FA, third-party conflicts could be the cause.

That produces a bar code that creates a standard 6-digit TOTP code that you enter when you need to authenticate. Note that you can use this option with Microsoft Authenticator as well.
