After much confusion, LG has confirmed that AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support will be coming to some of its 2018 TV models, in addition to its newer 2019 and 2020 TVs.

Despite a previous published commitment to bringing both AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to selected 2018 TV models, LG now says that it has no plans to do so.

2019 LG TVs also support AirPlay audio, which means that you can send music and podcasts on your TV, pair your TV with other AirPlay 2-compatible speakers. New LG TVs also support HomeKit.

The ‌AirPlay‌ 2 functionality in LG TVs is linked to ‌HomeKit‌, so LG TV sets with the new firmware will show up in the Home app on ‌iPhone‌, iPad, and Mac.

LG was recently dinged for limiting AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to its 2019 lineup, both features that other manufacturers are offering to owners of older hardware.

LG will begin rolling out a software update on Thursday to support Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit on its smart TVs.

LG TVs should also support AirPlay audio, which means that you can send audio to multiple AirPlay 2 devices at once (including your LG TV) and manage your multi-speaker setup from your iOS device.
