Oak leaf mulch is a food source for both plants and other living organisms in the soil. Oak leaves release nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur, which feeds good bacteria, fungi, insects, and worms.

Mulch: Oak leaves are my favorite mulch for the vegetable and flower garden. They are small and sturdy, so they can be spread or moved easily. Use them for paths or in thin layers around small plants.

It can slightly increase the soil's acidity if you mulch with pine needles or oak leaves. Mulch can help prevent rotten fruit by keeping it off the soil. It can prevent the soil from crusting.

With oak leaves, I either let them decompose for a year or so in a pile or I shred them before using them as mulch. Otherwise, these tough-textured leaves form a heavy mat.

We have lived in an oak/pecan forest for almost 50 years. I’ve had very good success with their decaying leaves as a mulch and in the preparation of my gardens’ soils.

Subsequently, your oak tree and the plants beneath it may be watered again over the course of the summer, but never more frequently than once a month. The best oak tree mulch consists of oak leaves.
