Parents of the victims of the May 2022 mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, saw sweeping wins this week in their fight for accountability from the city and law enforcement departments.

The chief of police for Uvalde schools has submitted his resignation more than a year after he replaced the man who held the position during the 2022 school massacre in the Texas city, according to a school official’s statement obtained by CNN affiliate KSAT Tuesday.

Uvalde CISD Police Chief Joshua Gutierrez is leaving the district just more than a year after taking the position.
