A 27-year-old man was charged with murder on Monday in California in connection with the shooting death of Laney College athletic director John Beam, who starred in Netflix's "Last Chance U" series.

Cedric Irving Jr, 27, could face 50 years to life if convicted, Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson said. He is accused of shooting John Beam, 66, in the head on the campus of Laney College in Oakland on Nov. 13.
