Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal, despite its name, functions entirely as a domestic court. Operating under national laws, it faces criticism for political influence, limited safeguards, selective prosecutions and lacking genuine international legitimacy.

The International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh on November 17, 2025, found Sheikh Hasina, the former prime minister, and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, the former home minister, guilty of crimes against humanity during the violent suppression of student-led protests in 2024.

Sheikh Hasina’s father originally set up Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal to try cases of atrocities during the Liberation War. Hasina revived the tribunal when she assumed power in 2000s. T
