The tropical Pacific Ocean is changing. The strong El Niño is rapidly ending, and we may see the opposite condition called La Niña developing. The switch from El Niño to La Niña will probably impact our summer weather.

The El Nino weather pattern should fade out by June but could be replaced by the La Nina phenomenon by the second half of the year, a U.S. government forecaster said on Thursday. There is a 49% chance that the La Nina weather pattern may develop during the June to August period,

“La Niña generally tends to follow strong El Niño events, which also provides added confidence in the model guidance favoring La Niña,” the report said. La Niña may develop in June-August (49% chance) or July-September (69% chance), according to the report.

El Paso expects another scorching summer and warm winter due to La Niña, with a 40% chance 2024 will be the hottest year on record, according to NWS.

THE El Niño weather phenomenon, which has damaged over P4 billion worth of crops and resulted in record highs in temperature, may be over by June. Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) chief Nathaniel Servando told The Manila Times via Viber on Friday that El Niño has started to weaken but will continue to affect the country in the coming days.

The El Niño phenomenon, which brought havoc to the country, would likely end next month, the top official of the state-run weather agency said on Friday.
