Indonesian authorities have seeded clouds in a bid to prevent further rainfall after flash floods that hit the country's Sumatra Island over the weekend left at least 58 people dead.

Rescuers have recovered more bodies after monsoon rains triggered flash floods on Indonesia’s Sumatra Island, leaving 44 people dead and 15 missing.

Indonesian rescuers raced Wednesday to find dozens of people still unaccounted for after heavy rains caused flash floods and washed volcanic debris into residential areas over the weekend, sweeping away houses and leaving 67 people dead.

The number of people killed by flash floods and mud slides in Indonesia's West Sumatra province has risen to 52, and more than 3,000 people have been evacuated, authorities said on Tuesday, with heavy rains expected until next week.
