The U.N. Security Council has approved a U.S. plan for Gaza that authorizes an international stabilization force to provide security in the devastated territory and envisions a possible future path to an independent Palestinian state.

The United Nations Security Council voted Monday evening to approve President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, a major diplomatic victory providing an international mandate to rebuild the Gaza Strip following two years of conflict between Israel and Hamas.

U.S. and Israeli officials are divided over whether to allow the militants, stranded inside a tunnel network in Rafah, safe passage.
